Digital Promise is working to improve digital learning opportunities for underserved adults in the United States. We work with entrepreneurs, educators, and researchers to advance the development and use of educational technology that expands career pathways and improves the quality of life for these learners.
An estimated 36 million adults in the U.S. lack the basic math, language, and digital literacy skills necessary to find well-paying jobs and navigate public and social systems. Technology can increase access to education, provides support and scaffolding, and offers personalized learning pathways for these learners to advance in their careers and life.
We work at the intersection of adult education, workforce development, and technology development to support the design and infusion of technology into the world of adult learning.
Our work includes:
- Creating a network of educators and developers who are designing and using technology in ambitious, innovative ways to support adult learners. Our Beacon Project members experiment and iterate, and their experiences help us understand and amplify new models and practices.
- Spotlighting the model practices in use with adult learners around the U.S. Through these stories from and discussions with our Beacons and partners, we offer educators and developers specific examples of how to incorporate technology into adult learning in highly effective yet affordable ways.
- Providing key research and resources to anchor developers’ efforts to design highly effective education technology. By understanding adult learners and the adult learning market, including how funding works, how to enter the market, and the current products, developers can become leaders in this large, mostly untapped market.
